Miniature Anchor Rivet Bush

Miniature Anchor Rivet Bush illustration

The PSM MINARB® is a miniature ANCHOR RIVET BUSH designed for applications where space or distance to the sheet edge is at a premium. Weight saving is one reason the MINARB® may be selected. A stand-off version (MINOFF) allows the body length to be specified, thus providing a captive threaded spacer.

Advantages

Design Guide

Hole Size in Sheet

Holes may be punched or drilled and a tolerance of -0.00 +0.1mm should be maintained.

Installation

It is essential that the correct design of riveting punch is always used (see Assembly Punch data). For consistent results a press is recommended, however small quantities may be installed using hand tools.

Stand-Off Types

Where minimum projection is not essential there are performance advantages in specifying the next larger shank code.

Direction of Load

Although the mating component can be fastened to either side of the bush, maximum performance will be achieved when fastening to the riveted shank side.

How to Specify

How to Assemble

MINARB® can be installed using both an “impact” and a “squeeze” action, allowing both hand and machine installation. Sheet hardness is not critical as the bush deforms rather than the sheet, during installation.

Methods

  1. Punch a hole in the metal sheet to the size recommended in our technical data table. Deburring of the hole is not recommended.
  2. Insert the serrated shank through the hole in the sheet.
  3. Using the profiled punch detailed below, rivet the shank, spreading and flattening it onto the face of the sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions About Miniature Anchor Rivet Bush

What is a Miniature Anchor Rivet Bush?

A Miniature Anchor Rivet Bush (MINARB) is a compact, reduced-body version of the standard Anchor Rivet Bush, specifically designed for sheet metal applications where space is restricted or where the fastener must be positioned very close to the sheet edge. Like the standard ARB, it installs permanently into a pre-drilled hole and creates a strong captive internal thread on the blind side of the sheet — but its smaller outer diameter and reduced body footprint make it the right choice when panel space, edge distance, or component density rules out a full-size rivet bush. PSM’s MINARB series is made from mild steel as standard.
Both are miniature rivet bush variants from PSM, but they serve different installation profiles. The MINARB is a standard miniature anchor rivet bush that installs flush with or just below the sheet surface, providing a captive internal thread in a minimal footprint. The MINOFF is an offset variant — its body is designed to position the thread axis offset from the centre of the installation hole, which is useful when a thread must be placed in a location that cannot accommodate a concentrically drilled hole due to nearby features, edges, or obstructions. If in doubt, contact PSM’s technical team to confirm which variant suits your design.
The MINARB and ARB share the same installation principle — both are riveted into a pre-drilled hole to create a permanent captive thread — but the MINARB has a significantly smaller outer body diameter and reduced head size. This smaller footprint delivers two key advantages: it can be installed much closer to the sheet edge without risk of deforming the panel, and it suits assemblies where multiple fasteners must be placed in tight proximity. The trade-off is that the MINARB has lower push-out and torque-out load ratings than a full-size ARB, so it is best suited to lighter-duty fastening applications.

Yes. The MINARB is installed using a suitable riveting tool or press with a mandrel or anvil matched to the miniature bush body diameter. Because of its smaller size, standard ARB installation tooling is not interchangeable — using the wrong tool risks incomplete setting, panel damage, or reduced retention strength. A correctly sized punch and anvil set is required to apply the precise setting force that flares the bush body on the blind side of the sheet. PSM can advise on the correct installation tooling for each MINARB part number.

PSM’s MINARB and MINOFF series are available in small metric thread sizes appropriate to their compact body dimensions. Typical available thread sizes include M2.5, M3, and M4 — reflecting the MINARB’s role in precision, space-constrained applications where smaller fasteners are the norm.
